Road, footpath, grass or sand?

What surface and why?

Runners use different surfaces for different reasons.

Road running is often used to build speed, a hard surface to push from without a large loss of energy.

Grass is an excellent way to prevent injury and promote strength. Grass provides less pressure and impact going through your body. [Read more…]

Failed to prepare? Prepare to fail.

Make sure you are well rested.
No last-minute cram training in the days leading up to the race. Remember DOMS sets in 48 hours post exercise, until this time your body is in repair mode and wont be at full function or strength. Try to keep active in the days leading into the race but keep exercise gentle and low intensity. Of course there are exceptions to this rule and some short high intensity bouts of exercise that don’t cause fatigue have been found to be beneficial.

Recently I decided to run a marathon. Why? I’ve always wanted to. Why? I have no idea.

So I wrote it down,  I researched which event I’d do and I started planning. I set myself 5 months to get fit and race ready. I didn’t know how to train for a marathon so I enlisted help from a run coach and an amazing mum and runner who motivated me to do my absolute best. I was excited!

Thinking of getting back to running post pregnancy? Great idea!

Running is a great form of cardio. Nothing gets your heart and lungs pumping like a run, not to mention the burning legs. Exercise in general is great for muscle development, bone density and healthy arteries. There are also the psychological benefits to consider. If you are a runner, you know what I mean about the runner’s high. Nothing beats that rush of endorphins. It can be very therapeutic and exactly what you need for a little “me” time, away from your new job as a mum.
