Pelvic floor dysfunction affects at least 1 in 4 women. The pelvic floor is made of muscles, ligaments and fascia (connective tissue). It supports the pelvic organs (bladder, uterus and rectum) and acts as a core stabiliser of the pelvis and spine. Pelvic floor problems are common among women and tend to increase with age. Dysfunction of the pelvic floor can lead to one or more of:
- Urinary incontinence
- Faecal incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pelvic pain disorders
