Ageing, ain’t it great?!

May 10, 2018

So much research has been done of late in to making our exercise regimes as effective and efficient as possible. As part of this its effect on aging has been examined. Only a couple of generations ago it was thought that as you aged you should slow down and take it easy. Sorry to say- its not true.

The body declines as we age, but does it need to stop us? It is a known fact that we get a bit creaky, warming up takes a little longer and our knees can tell us that rain is on the way. But maybe we can slow it all down. The latest research suggests that introducing high intensity exercise every week, with a heart rate of around 80% max even for 10-20 minutes A WEEK can do the job!

Want to get started, start slowly. Gradually build into it, the demands of high intensity training on your body are high so be careful.

Do it properly. It isn’t effective unless you are slightly uncomfortable, you are breathless and sweating.

Follow the hard with the easy. Aim for a 20:80 ratio. And after each bout of high intensity training “unloading” activities should be used. Walking, stretching or yoga work well.

Incorporate some strength. You don’t need weights , your body will do. Its important to help slow down the ageing process.

Stock your fridge. Forget the fads, just eat healthy…most of the time. No gimmicks, no tricks.
